The land outside is barren and black
And wish as we may, there's no going back
For to venture outside is surely to die

The end finally came as most had forseen
When the heavens were seared by pillars of flame
And what wasn't burned in the heat of the fire
Was corrupted forever by poisonous rain
And those that survived all envied the dead
Facing the hell on Earth that remained
And so one by one, all of us were then led
To the dome in the wasteland, where we were contained

I suppose it's not bad to live in this dome
At least we are safe from the terrors outside
Our air is kept pure, our water recycled
For to use those beyond would be suicide
We make what we can of whatever we find
Wondering if anyone else has survived
And time and again, we are forced to concede
That each day we make is a gift in disguise
