*START CHORUS*
The universe is massive
Oh, can't you see?
There's nothing quite as tiny
As you and me
From quantum quarks to galaxies
Across the universe
Makes you realise how tiny is
Our dear own planet Earth
*END CHORUS*
The quark's a tiny particle that you'll never see alone
They come in triplets, one, two, three, to build a greater whole
There're combinations myriad, in the ways that they combine
But three specific variants create our grand design
Electrons, neutrons, protons, form our atomic base
From which are built the elements that permeate our space
Atoms form bonds together of various different kinds
Creating molecular structures that would boggle the average mind
-- CHORUS --
There's billions of molecules in every person here
And billions more in air, the earth, and every pint of beer
In every mile there's trillions, as far as you can run
But in the scale of everything, we've only just begun
From here back to London is only sixty miles
But if you chose to walk it, it might take you a while
Further still is old New York, three thousand miles away
And our planet's sixteen thousand miles in a circumferential way
-- CHORUS --
Our sister planet, Venus, is a distance further yet
Thirty million miles is the closest that it gets
And the sun is three times further, put approximately
So it takes a whole eight minutes for the light of it we see
Our nearest stellar neighbour is Alpha Centauri
Just four point three light years, give or take a week
Even at the speed of light, that's really quite a trip
But compared to where we're going next, it's just a minor blip
-- CHORUS --
The large and small Magellanic Clouds are on the other side
Of our galaxy which is a hundred thousand light years wide
Andromeda is our galaxy's nearest galactic chum
But two point nine million light years is enough to make you feel shunned
The universe has grown at an exponential rate
For 15 billion years, though that's cause for some debate
It's a mystery why everything seems in such a rush
But if it started with a bang, it may end with a crush!
The universe is massive
Oh, can't you see?
There's nothing quite as tiny
As you and me
From quantum quarks to galaxies
Across the universe
Makes you realise how tiny is
Our dear own planet -
From quantum quarks to galaxies
Across the universe
Makes you realise how tiny is
Our dear own planet Earth
