Putting the Hamster in Dragster

The Hamster takes her name from the first song of hers that was ever performed in filk - "Hamsters in Heaven", or "The Hamster Song", as it is known by some. The music for the song was originally written by now near-legendary filker Mich Sampson, and was performed at Swiggle, a quarterly filk meet in London, well before Stacy ever ventured there herself. When she did finally go, she was quite overawed to see other people all singing her song in chorus, and has never looked back.

The second "Hamster Song", "My Hamster's Out To Get Me", formed the band's first convention performance, in the main concert at "16 Tones" - the 16th Annual UK Filk Convention, before the band was officially formed. Nowadays she writes about other things in an attempt to lose some of that one-track-hamster image, but there will always be a special place in the band for those songs that started it all.

Stacy taught herself guitar from a few books and a lot of practice - proof both of the ability to learn anything if you try hard enough, and that those 'Dummies Guide' books really do work!
