A long, long time ago
I can still remember
How those arcades used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those spaceships dance
And maybe top the scoreboard for a while
But then one day the games evolved
Replacing puzzles we had solved
Innovation was diluted
But graphics kept us rooted
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about their CGI
But something touched me deep inside
The day the gameplay died
So bye-bye, Mister Playstation Guy
Took my XBox to the pawn shop
Kissed my Gamecube goodbye
I'm back to my days of playing Pacman and Pong
Wondering where did we all go wrong?
Oh, where did it all go wrong?
Did you ever play Nintendo
And realise that each Mario is
The same as the one before?
And each new Final Fantasy
Is just a carbon copy RPG
Another romance, with a background of war
Well, I know that you love Halo so
And I've seen you play Gran Turismo
And they're okay, it's true
But they give me gameplay blues!
I was a breakout fiend back in my day
And I lived for when I got to play
But now I cry out in dismay
Because the gameplay died
And I'm singing
Bye-bye, Mister Playstation Guy
Took my XBox to the pawn shop
Kissed my Gamecube goodbye
I'm back to my days of playing Pacman and Pong
Wondering where did we all go wrong?
Oh, where did it all go wrong?
Marble Madness used to be my thing
When Atari was crowned Console King
But that's not how it's come to be
Sega and Nintendo won that race
But now even they have been replaced
by XBox Three-Sixty and PS Three
And while Commodore was looking down
The PC stole its computer crown
Now a gigabyte of ram at least
Is what you'll need to run this beast
But I'm still happy with sixteen-K
That was enough back in my day
When all that I wanted to play
Was Pacman, Breakout and Pong
And I'm singing
Bye-bye, Mister Playstation Guy
Took my XBox to the pawn shop
Kissed my Gamecube goodbye
I'm back to my days of playing Pacman and Pong
Wondering where did we all go wrong?
Oh, where did it all go wrong?
The cartridge age has come and gone
CDs once stood where they belonged
Now DVDs are all the craze
And they say new games are such a thrill
But I've already had my fill
And I'm hoping that all this is just a phase
Now all the games are sequel fun
Like Sonic, Tekken and Outrun
But there's no gameplay movement
Just graphical improvement
And the consoles I admired so
No longer make their makers dough
They all sold out so long ago
I wish they'd bring them back
And I'm singing
Bye-bye, Mister Playstation Guy
Took my XBox to the pawn shop
Kissed my Gamecube goodbye
I'm back to my days of playing Pacman and Pong
Wondering where did we all go wrong?
Oh, where did it all go wrong?
And I'm singing
Bye-bye, Mister Playstation Guy
Took my XBox to the pawn shop
Kissed my Gamecube goodbye
I'm back to my days of playing Pacman and Pong
Wondering where did we all go wrong?
